“The more you spend
Spend less”
said Grandpa
This saying often resonates in tradition, which implies that a product made with more care and better materials ultimately pays off as it is more durable.

How is Materia build?
The spring
Materia is made from independent springs, individually bagged in TNT bags.
We chose these springs developed by the Italian leader in the sector, because it's 100% recyclable.
How does recycling work?
Through 3 phases.
Shredding of raw materials and separation of spring steel

Steel smelting to produce new spools of wire

Of steel

Melting the fabric in order to obtain reusable recycled nonwoven fabric

fabric and glue

The padding
The padding is made from 24 layers of pure materials, as if it were a mille-feuille cake. This allows, once the joining points have been removed, to flake off the individual materials one at a time:
- 4 layers of horsehair
- 4 layers of bamboo
- 12 layers of cotton
- 4 layers of reinforcing canvas
Glues, or other anchoring systems, are not used to create the layers to make it possible to disassemble and then recycle. Furthermore, in order to guarantee the maximum durability of the mattress, we have not inserted any type of foam inside, much less latex.
We have chosen to limit the use of these potentially more perishable materials to the outer topper for ease of maintenance and replacement.
Artisanal,
not luxurious.
Materia is not a cheap product
Un 100% cotton jacquard fabric with double twisted yarn, practically indestructible. Only the perimeter tapes are applied through machine processing, tapes that can be easily removed for disassembly.
What gives stability to the different layers and to the spring are two manual processes, specifically the perimeter stitching of the band through a wire that is anchored to the spring and a ribbon stitching, above and below, which keeps the padding firm.

So how do you recycle it?
Brentaflex collects Materia, the sale price already includes the cost of collection, and the mattress is dismantled and its materials separated so that can be 100% recycled.
Remove the webbing
With a small scissor, the closing thread of the ribbon is engraved.
With a decisive move, such as tearing off a shirt sleeve, you remove the tape around the perimeter.

Remove flakes
Always through a scissor, you remove the flakes that hold the canvas together above and below, and all the points where the perimeter band joins the spring.

Separate the enclosure
Once the anchor points have been removed, it is possible to separate the 100% cotton canvas from the rest

Decompose the yarrow
The individual pure layers: cotton, bamboo, horsehair can simply be separated and placed in different containers

The skeleton
Only the independent spring is left, this is returned to the supplier for the complete recycling of the mattress.
